TST Terschelling — Website Redesign & Development

Client: Transport Service Terschelling
Type: Full website redesign and custom CMS build
Year: 2026

About the client

Transport Service Terschelling (TST) is the primary logistics operator connecting Terschelling and Vlieland with the Dutch mainland. Their services cover parcel shipping for private individuals and businesses, holiday luggage transport, house moves, specialist waste collection including construction waste and business waste, route-based island waste collection, and storage. TST is an essential part of island life for both residents and businesses on Terschelling.

The challenge

The existing website had grown organically over many years and no longer reflected the scale or professionalism of the operation. Pages were visually inconsistent, the service offering was difficult to navigate, the design had no clear hierarchy, and the site gave no real sense of the company behind it.

The brief was to rebuild the site completely: create a clear, modern, credible web presence that serves both existing customers who know what they need and new visitors who are discovering TST for the first time.

Design

The visual direction is built around TST's brand colours: a strong turquoise accent paired with deep dark blue for structural elements and clean white for content areas. This palette is applied consistently across every page, creating immediate visual coherence across a wide range of page types.

Typography uses Lato for headings and Open Sans for body text. Both typefaces are highly legible at small sizes, work well across devices, and give the site a professional tone that suits a logistics operator without feeling corporate or cold.

Each page type was designed with its own purpose in mind. Service information pages are editorial in structure: they introduce the service, explain the process, build confidence, and lead naturally toward a call to action. Form pages are task-focused and clean: the user knows immediately what they need to fill in and why. The homepage acts as a strong front door, making the breadth of the service offering clear within seconds while directing different types of visitors toward their most relevant section.

A consistent hero band, a well-spaced content area, and a grounded footer appear on every page. This gives the site a coherent identity without making individual pages feel identical. The navigation was structured around visitor intent rather than internal company organisation, with informational service pages and transactional form pages separated into distinct menu groups.

Development

The site is built on a custom lightweight PHP MVC framework written specifically for this project, targeting the PHP server environment. There are no third-party framework dependencies. The router handles clean URLs, controllers manage page logic and form processing, and views are built from reusable layout partials combined with page-specific content templates.

All forms submit via POST with server-side validation and send confirmation emails through PHP mail. Every form retains its complete original field set. Form completeness was treated as a non-negotiable requirement throughout the project, as TST's operational workflows depend on receiving full data from each submission.

Front-end assets are compiled from SCSS and use lightweight vanilla JavaScript for navigation behaviour, form feedback, and interface details. The site requires no JavaScript framework. Font Awesome provides icons and Google Fonts serves the typefaces. The full site is responsive, with desktop grids collapsing cleanly to single-column mobile layouts and the navigation reducing to a touch-friendly hamburger menu.

A custom CMS allows TST staff to manage operational content across five areas without needing technical knowledge: shipments, the waste collection calendar, address and route information, terms and conditions, and general site content.

Pages delivered

Service information: Homepage, parcel shipping for individuals, parcel shipping for businesses, holiday luggage, moving and relocation, waste drop-off at TST, business waste, route collection, waste calendar, TST authorisation, storage, about TST, address and route, terms and conditions.

Request forms: Send a parcel, price request for shipments, holiday luggage request, moving request, route collection registration, construction waste container, business waste container, cooking oil collection, kitchen waste collection, TST authorisation signing, contact form.

Result

The rebuilt site presents TST as a credible, well-organised logistics operator. The service offering is clear from the first visit. The path from discovery to request submission is short and logical. The visual quality is a significant step above the previous site and is competitive with logistics operators serving comparable regional markets. The system is maintainable by a small team without technical expertise and built to last on stable, dependency-light foundations.
